My method of instruction is focused on the needs of the STUDENT. I provide an environment where YOU can realize YOUR potential on the instrument at whatever level you are at. Everybody has different learning styles and learning needs - it is my job to asses, through your cooperation, HOW YOU LEARN the best and to provide you with APPROPRIATE ways to move forward with your playing and musicianship!
My approach begins with a focus on your current abilities - this will be our starting point - what can you do NOW, and what would you LIKE to do on the instrument? I first assess all possibilities for the improvement of your TECHNIQUE while we explore what direction to go in. If you are unsure about where you want to go, that you just want to get better, I can provide you with the STRUCTURE, MATERIAL, and GUIDANCE.
If you are a complete beginner, I have several proven methods to get you started off on the right foot. IN THE END WE LEARN BY DOING. What we do on the instrument will again be focused on your needs (or the needs of your child) for the purpose of building a strong foundation.
I teach out of my studio apartment in the El Cerrito hills, or I can come to you. I charge a competitive rate of $20 per half hour lesson for in-call lessons. 1/2 hour, 45 minute, and hour lessons are typical formats. For out-calls, I charge a $10 fee and am willing to travel within a 20 mile radius. A discount is available for those who pay by the month or who are experiencing financial difficulties.
