We have a African spurred tortoise or "Sulcata tortoise" for adoption, his name is Charley he is five years old his birthday is June 2010 we have raised him since three inch's, he was flown from Fl. from a breeding center. He has been a wonderful pet and friend to our family, unfortunately we retired and can not give him the attention he requires. This is the second largest tortoise in the world and will grow to about three feet and can get up to 100 to 200lbs. They have a diet of grass's and hey and spurred leafy plants that grow wild and loves dandy lions Charley is very gentle and loving easy to care for if you work he simply stay's in a kennel and during the summer he primarily stays outside in his pen and fenced yard. During the winter he stay's in the house in a pen with straw and likes the dark with day temp around 70's and night temp no lower then 55 to 60 deg. Charley can live up to 50 to 150 years and loves the desert areas such as Arizona New Mexico area but can adjust to any controlled temperature environment.
