$8 per classroom hour. Lowest price in the Austin Area.

You are welcome to drop in and observe my art classes/lessons in progress at any meeting without reservation.

The lessons are taught (ongoing class for over 10 years) at Hobby Lobby (I am independent of Hobby Lobby - they let me use their classroom) in Northwest Austin on Saturdays 1-3pm in a classroom at the Northwest Hobby Lobby on 183 and Lakecreek Parkway near between 620 and Anderson Mill Road. At 13729 Research Blvd. Ste 500 (Near Burlington Coat Factory in the shopping center with Southwest Theaters and Jasons Deli). The classroom is in the front of the store. Enter the foyer, then enter the store and take an immediate right, behind the cash registers along the wall is a doorway with a sign above it reading Classroom- 55 ft from the entrance) They are every Saturday 1-3pm (except for major holiday weekends - the weekend of Easter, Memorial Day Weekend, the 4th of July if it is on Fri-Mon, Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the weekend closest to Christmas and some weekends while I am on vacation).

Because you are on your own self-paced course, coming to the meetings is now more flexible. You pay $60 for 4 two hour lessons ($7.50 per hour) or (if it is a child) you have the option of 8 one hour classes (arrive from 1-2pm) and have 6 months to use all of the lessons. This is like private art lessons, but much more affordable. If you need times other that 1-3 Saturdays, I charge $30 per hour for completely private lessons at your convenience in my home (If you bring a friends you can split the cost i.e. 2 people for $40 per hour for first hour of the session $35 for additional hours, private lessons for 4 is $50 per hour for the first hour of the session $40 for additional hours) (I am located near North of Parmer, South of Howard Lane and East of IH 35 on Bennington Ln 78753- private lessons will accelerate your learning as you get 100% of my attention).
Private lessons in your home are available at $30 per hour (one person) plus travel time roundtrip from my home at $25 per hour. (2 hour minimum)

Students continue on the same project even if they miss several meetings. You will get individual attention over a dozen times per meeting as I continuously help my students in rotation. The rest of the time you paint or draw your project.
For testimonials go to http://www.marketingdesignsolutions.net/artlessons/raves.htm. These quotes are from 2003. My course has improved significantly since then with better methods, techniques and many more beautiful projects to paint and draw. I have basic drawing, portrait drawing, figure drawing and perspective drawing projects. For painting I have simple to complex projects that help without overwhelming. You get practice and learn some new skills each class. To watch a video showing how I teach as well as my students and my work go to: http://www.marketingdesignsolutions.net/artlessons/ There is also a gallery at: http://www.marketingdesignsolutions.net/artlessons/gallery.htm

I teach students to copy the source material in this skills-based class. Students paint and draw from other paintings and photographs. This prepares students to paint their own projects. Each project reinforces their skills from previous projects and teaches new ones. In a typical class taught by other instructors, students are overwhelmed with having to learn so many new skills over a short period of time. They cannot retain all of the new skills. With my system the new skills are integrated with continual refinement of applied skills so there is continual improvement over a period of time. For example: I have a painting exercise just focusing on creating a gradation between full strength color and white. Making a seamless blend between full strength red to light red to pink to white. Then I have the student paint a simple bowl in black and white (color comes later) using what they just learned in the previous exercise plus I teach them a new skill of basic wet-in-wet for the background. After the bowl, I have them paint a more challenging exercise to reinforce gradations (a cup with a handle and a medicine bottle - both with shadows. Then on to the color wheel and color projects (simple still life and landscapes to begin with) with gradations and wet-in-wet plus more new methodology and techniques. It's a well rounded course that can go on to learning impressionism and/or portraits.

You can take one of the four mediums offered: drawing, watercolor, oil (water soluble oil is available without the smell or cost of turpentine or mineral spirits) or acrylic without concerning yourself if a class is going to make and start. You can change mediums at any time. In a traditional class all the students are taught the same medium at the same time. The number of students at the meetings varies due to the flexibility and is averaging 8 for the last 3 months. I have been teaching painting and drawing for over 14 years total (since 2002 at this location).

Start when you want. You can start at the next meeting on Saturday at 1-3pm (except for major holiday weekends - the weekend of Easter, Memorial Day Weekend, the 4th of July if it is on Fri-Mon, Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the weekend closest to Christmas). No waiting for the class to make and/or start. I have been teaching this way at this location for since 2002.

The attendance card that you get when you pay for the lessons is transferable. So you can sell or give away the lessons to someone else.

No long term commitment. You only pay for 4 two hour or 8 one hour lessons at a time. You renew to learn more. In time I can teach you to be a pro. Even colleges and universities don't offer a skills based course, they expect you to know how to paint when you arrive. This course is unique.

Check it out. You are cordially invited to see how this all works without obligation. Just drop in sometime between 1-3 pm on Saturdays. You don't even need any reservations to take a look. You may come and watch my teaching method. No reservation required. You can also see the student gallery and instructor portfolio which is more comprehensive than on this posting or the website.

Because every student is on their own self-paced course and there is no group project or lecture. Also, there is no waiting for the others if you are faster than average and no feeling rushed if you are slower than average. I work with students individually and there are no time constraints. Also, lessons are more flexible because you have 6 months to use your 4 lessons (each lesson is 2 hours). If you miss a week or two you will still be able to finish the project you were working on in the previous lesson. You keep your work.

I teach 5 year old children (5-6 year-olds typically draw cartoons because they generally won't understand the skills necessary to render what they see - their mind is generally not formed well enough until 7 or so). I have a more advanced drawing program for adults and some children take that program as well. The minimum age for painting is typically 8 years old . The lessons are serious and the children are kept busy and quiet. Most parents leave their children and pick them up at the end of class. Student Gallery and Instructor portfolio is below the written information. My goal is to train students to paint or draw exactly what they see and bring them up towards a masters level. It takes a different amount of time for each student.

Cost:
Lessons are $64 for 4 two hours lessons ($8 per hour- you pay $60 when you begin the lessons - no tax - cash or check acceptable - I am not setup to accept credit or debit cards except through the internet - You must set this up in advance). You can take your four lessons within six months from signing up. In the beginning it is better to have the lessons close together to help you retain the techniques.

I will supply all the supplies you need for $2 for drawing or $4 for painting per two hour lesson if you are using my projects.

If you purchase Art supplies:

Approx. $15 for drawing.

Oil (Water soluble) or Acrylic supplies $25 to $80 (depending on quantity and quality of paint) )

Watercolor supplies $25 to $58 (depending on quantity and quality of paint) palette optional
