I love working with beginners and more advanced students; all ages from young children to adults who have always wanted to play piano and just never got around to it; music lovers who played in the past and now want to get back to the keyboard.
My goal is to launch my students on a lifelong pathway of creativity, self-expression, and connection with others through music. Along with traditional elements of classical music education, my teaching emphasizes creativity and what I call the "street smarts" of music: improvisation, playing by ear, practical music theory, making up your own songs, and making music with others.
I embrace not just classical music styles, but blues and jazz and pop and folk and many other music styles, and have played for years in many kinds of bands, from tango and jazz to garage rock, from old-fashioned country to Irish folk. If you love music and want to find a way to make it more a part of your life, I'm sure we'll get along.
I teach from my studio on Main St. in Westbrook. It's a fantastic location for students in Westbrook, Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Gorham, Windham, and Falmouth.
