Animals and critters from all walks of life are my friends, and dogs are my passion. I am a huge rescue/adoption/welfare advocate. My lifelong dream is to build an animal sanctuary/rescue out in the country and take in all the unwanted animals and love them for the rest of their days!!I have worked at animal hospitals and also volunteered for rescue/adoption groups. I am the crazy person who stops traffic to save an animal running across the road or to move a turtle. I would also be willing to break a window to free an animal left in a hot car. There is nothing I would not do to help an animal in need.
I work full-time at Henrico Doctors Hospital 7:30-4 M-F and am off weekends. I can stay at your house overnight or drop by before/after work and before bedtime. With your permission, I can take your dogs to the river, beach, park, hiking etc. I love the outdoors and love to have 4 legged friends join me on adventures if they are up to it! If they are more low key, I am also happy to snuggle up with them, give belly rubs, watch movies, and take a nap! I will send you pictures, videos, or snapchats of them so you don't miss them too much :)
I have no problem handling large breeds - I had a German Shepherd/Lab mix for 14 years growing up who loved to pull on her leash and dart after squirrels! All ages, breeds, sizes, personalities, energy levels and and abilities are welcome. I have a very soft place in my heart for old dogs and dogs with disabilities and wonky physical traits - they are just all sooo precious to me.
I have patience and understanding of animals from different backgrounds with different personalities and habits. Some dogs jump all over you, some shy away until you earn their trust. I know how to approach fearful animals- some who have been hurt or traumatized by humans. My heart is full of compassion and empathy for these beautiful souls who were dealt a bad hand early in life. I love them for being resilient and willing to trust and love again despite their hurtful pasts. I understand their reasons for not trusting humans and can't blame them. Animals have always sensed my calming nature and compassion for their needs and fears. My dog of 14 years was a rescue and a stray. When I got her, she was a sad little puppy full of ticks, fleas, and worms and might have been abused. Certain things would trigger fear for her early on, but in time, my sweet girl learned to trust, and those fears were a thing of the past. Growing up raising a rescued dog and seeing her transformation helped me discover my passion for loving animals.
I believe that all animals deserve to be treated with kindness, respect and love. They are more loyal and loving than most humans I know! I understand that your dogs are your babies, so no request is too ridiculous for me. I always tell them good morning, good night, say sorry if I trip over them, or bless you when they sneeze. I have dressed them in clothes, given them silly names, and sang songs to them. Good thing dogs don't judge!! I love people who are obsessed with their pets, because some animals never get the chance to have a family or be loved !
