Starting up any new business can come with a whole new set of obstacles as well the challenges The rules, psychology and processes are confusing to say the least.
For anyone who has opened a traditional brick and mortar business knows the difficulties that come with some of the newer venues like Bonanza and they can easily become discouraging. This is where I come into play.

I'm Richard an ebay Top Rated Power Seller and I've been selling on line since 2004. The last several years of that time I've shared the nuts and bolts of successful selling with businesses like yours. I've helped to get new businesses begin and flourish and have helped failing established businesses make the necessary changes to correct errors made.
I've found the mindset for most who open an online business is, that you merely open and ebay or Amazon account/store and it becomes a "here I am come and buy" attitude and this is one of the most common errors people make. Like everything else in business and in life, you only get out of anything what you put in.
I was like them. I owned a traditional business owner for over 30 yrs and in my early days of selling on ebay I made most of the same errors most do selling in an online, not paying attention to the do's and don'ts and nuts and bolts.
I soon learned that nuts and bolts might work well in machines but we are not machines and selling online isn't either. When we Sell online we need to understand that there needs to be a mix of nuts and bolts, add the abstract idea and the single common denominator or element that almost all independent sellers seem ignore, the human factor.
While the internet can be a very cold, dark place we as sellers need to make it a warmer and friendlier place. We constantly need to always remember that the buyer is like us, human. The buyer can't touch, taste or feel your products and only in a few cases are they allowed to try the product first in the form of a sample. It's our job to be clear as well 100% knowledgeable about the product and we better be able to back that up by quickly answering every question in a friendly and understandable way the more likely the sale will be made. Like in any business customer confidence comes with product knowledge delivered in a friendly and manner.
As "eMerchants" we need to always remember we never or seldom actually get to meet the buyer. It's vital we create a warm, welcoming shop and the more human we can make this technology driven vehicle the better. It's a virtual world but again we need to relay that human connection. Get to know the person because all too often many merchants have a "one shot deal" mentality and when selling online. As is in the "real world" people will love the personal touch, this I guaranty. There needs to be more than a name and an IP address relationship. This is a practice that has helped me to maintain my success and respected reputation and get that repeat business without clobbering people with spam emails that typically like the junk mail they get at home wind up in the trash basket. There are better ways to maintain a great relationship with customers then turning them off with daily spam. I know that often resent it and will probably not return to buy from them.

We need to break the "fine print model" in other words brag about the safety in shopping with you. You need to emphasize to the customer that they know that they are in a safe, protected and nurturing environment as we do in in traditional selling situations, We want the buyer to always feel comfortable at all times or you will lose that sale and every potential sale from them to follow. You can then multiply that by 10x! To really succeed in eCommerce there has to be balance which most of who have sold and failed online somehow lost touch with that human element. They looks at online selling as a very black and white action with little grey matter but the truth is we live in the real world and that contains colors or as I am defining the warmth of the human element!

There are many sellers out here offering their services but very few implement the "think outside the box" concept and that means combining the best parts of the digital universe on living color.
I am neither nuts and bolts nor abstract, I am all of the above and more period end of sentence. I've instilled this into each of my clients to "never lose sight of the human element and never be afraid to be different. People remember different and often forget the same.

When people look for an item they typically skim down a page on ebay. It's hard to differentiate one seller from the next when there can be literally 10's of thousands of listings on page after page selling what you do but simply making your products stand out from the others is the goal and gives you a huge edge, Just doing things just a little differently can get people to stop and click on your product(s) listing and that is the gateway to making that sale unlike popular belief of being ONLY price point.
Rule one to success any business on line or brick and mortar is presentation, as much as 90% of your new business depends on it and 75% on repeaters. Think of it as people walking past your sales window on Main st. It's the introduction and you know what they say about intro's , you only get one.
There is much we as merchants take for granted in online selling and that will almost guaranty lead you to failure, I can offer you so many bad scenarios and errors that people make but I'd rather to put focus on originality and implementing better and fresher strategies to what your competition uses. Ideas outside the box that separate you from them.

I also combine SEO studies, the very backbone of google and other search engines. These formulas are a constantly changing manipulation. With the merge of all of these components plus add the human element, your odds of being an online success can improve dramatically! SEO science and key-wording are not just for google.
On the selling sites you need to look at the search bars as search engines within search engines. They are specific to the site so keyword and good placement of keyword(s) and are a huge factors that help drive a perspective buyer to you and your products.
The bottom line to success on these selling sites are feedbacks, they are your lifeblood as a seller. GREAT feedbacks are the "Yelp" of these selling sites and the better the feedbacks the more business!
