Experienced instructor offering in-your-home guitar lessons. I have been teaching guitar for 20 years in the Chicago area and suburbs, specializing in beginner and intermediate students. Having taught students one on one and in group classes, from 6 years old to adult, I have a personal curriculum that is continuously modified and refined (including a special program for students aged 6 thru 9) and, since I have a teaching degree, I have a trained teacher's experience in regards to a student's age, personality and learning style.

Students learn picking techniques, chord playing, sight-reading, rhythm patterns and songs from the very first lesson. I teach all popular guitar styles: rock, pop, blues, folk, jazz and classical. Depending on what the student's interests are and whether they play acoustic or electric, once the basics are covered they can pursue, for example, acoustic finger-style which incorporates folk and classical elements, starting with easier instrumental pieces and working up to more advanced. Another popular route is rock/blues guitar. Students start with basic techniques such as bending and rock clichÃ©s, work their way through scales and solo strategies and eventually learn improvisation. Of course, this is always done in the context of actual songs -- general musicality is stressed throughout with always a fine line between repertoire, technique and the student's own interests.

My formal education consists of a B.A. in Music Education and a Songwriting certificate from Berklee College in Boston. As a music education major, I was required to be involved in vocal music so I am qualified to give voice lessons as well. Quite a few of my students take advantage of this when they haven't had enough vocal training and want to accompany themselves on guitar.

My professional experience has been playing lead/rhythm guitar with various cover bands in the Chicago area. I have also signed three publishing deals and released three CDs, "Guitarscapes" in 2006, Men Who Listen in 2009 and Men Who Listen 2 in 2011. Music samples can be found at the following links:
