Workshare opportunity, provided living quarters and meals for service (1424 Cherry st)

Hello there, Namaste, Hari OM.

Fed up with the main stream 9-5 corporate train wreck? Us too.

We have a couple spaces available in our yoga ashram. A few of the guys have gone off to India for several months to a year. What we are offering is a work share type situation in a meditation oriented house or ashram space.

We prefer to work with young people ranging from age of 18-25 or younger if parents consent. It is hard to train or teach people who are older and already fixed in their ways. In other words, we are generally looking for under 30 max. Looking for mostly men but there is a space for women in a separate flat. We keep the house to mostly males as this promotes focus in our projects and meditation. Some of the residents are actual monk practitioners.

We are looking specifically for people who are willing to live in a certain lifestyle or at least give it a try. We are also looking for progressive minded people with ideas to expand self sufficiency, cottage industry, and all around spiritually focused life. We are all vegetarian, free from drugs etc, and mediate every morning. We call our house/ashram "New Badarik ashram" named after an ashram that exists up in the Himalayan mountains.

We practice a form of meditation/yoga called bhakti yoga. Mainly a mantra oriented mediation. This is not the stretching yoga. No physical abilities required. However, if you are a musician that greatly benefits our meditations. We use traditional drums and other meditation instruments. We are fortunate to live nearby an awesome temple where we can also cook and join in on even bigger meditations and other projects.

Our temple also has a vegan/vegetarian cafe and often times we can facilitate work hours for people who need to earn some funds, however we first require at least a month or so training to learn the culture of our community and to help people get clear and clean from old energies and bad habits. We ask you to do a minimum month immersion in the ashram with the monks to learn how to be clean and centered. Room and board are covered as well as small material needs you may have can be discussed with the guys who do resources.

We don't require that you are immediately living this type of lifestyle. Only that you are interested in giving it a try. There must be some willingness to learn and be trained in an ancient type of culture. If that willingness is there you will love it. The monks and residents who will share with you are very kind, compassionate and wise souls. There is no allowance of poor treatment of any one here.

Services and work includes, cooking, cleaning, gardening, chanting meditations, group readings, stretching yoga. We also have different means of collecting funds to support our house including selling books, vegetarian food and fundraising. At first we don't ask anyone new to do too much fundraising, we are more interested in getting to know you and having your presence in our group meditations.

So, no official application required. This is a progressive, free lance type of project. We'd like to meet you and interview you a bit, but its quite informal I promise. Room for at least 1-2 more people. We'd like to meet you to see if it would be compatible and to see what your mood is like that is mostly it. The "background check" is just meeting you and seeing what you are about! ... so if you are interested, please give me a text or call and we can set it up. Also nice if you feel inclined to write an email sharing your story and interests. It helps if you can text or email your info as we have a lot of people applying. We will have a group come in to see the ashram on an upcoming weekend and see who feels most enthusiastic to give it a try.

Thanks!
