400 Single Male Seeks Roommate

It seems like most people in here look for a roommate when they a)do not have enough money (or credit) to move in on their own anywhere and are in a tough spot, b)have a house or apartment that is too much for them to afford and they look for other people to help them pay the bills, or c)they are weird pervy controlling people whose true motives are nothing I am interested in but who when I talk to them, all I can think is - no WAY do I move in with that freak.

I am a divorced guy with no kids or pets. I am looking to rent somewhere that isnt necessarily super nice because I want to save money to buy a house. I have found a couple of two bedrooms that would be in the 650-700 range. And that is something I am thinking about doing for six months to a year while I figure stuff out.

I am not mormon, but I dont care if you are. I see a lot of that on here too - people worried about whether or not the renter is mormon or will maintain those standards. It is none of my business if you smoke or drink or have sex or do other things. You wont be smoking in the house and drinking and whatever else is your own concern so long as your behaviors dont affect me unless I want them to. Its none of your business if I do those things, either. But I will tell you, since it seems to matter on here. although I dont smoke, i do drink a little and do nothing else as far as that stuff goes. I dont want to live in a house that has a lot of frequent visitors, though. In the past that has led to theft and some awkwardness. I dont want to live in a party house, either.

I am employed, and make money working for myself in a couple of other different ways that are legal and all that. I have a variety of creative interests that I pursue and I am very busy almost all the time. I am not in a relationship just now but I do 'date' a couple of girls at any given time.

I think it would be reasonable to expect a roomate to be able to come up with 500 bucks or so to move in somewhere together, and that half of our rent and utilities would probably be around 400 a month, all told. So long as someone gives good notice there is no reason the extra 100 bucks or so of deposit cant be returned to them. We can work out details. The money part is boring.

I think I would prefer a female roommate to a male. I have had better experience with female roommates in my life. But I am open to anyone. My best roommate ever was a divorced lesbian. My worst roommate ever was a guy who creeped on a girl I saw occasionally and used my/her discomfort over that as a reason to stop paying for rent, too. Anyways...

I dont think I would require a roommate to be on the lease. Depending on where we rent this might be preferable. But I think it would be interesting to maybe find a roommate FIRST and THEN find a place to live that we both like. I can live almost anywhere in the valley. What do you?
