BEWARE

Beware!
Renting out a room in your apartment or home could be dangerous. YOU must be pro-active to protect yourself and God forbid your children from becoming victims to both men/women who travel from town to town looking for their next victim. People off of CL who are new to OK should be carefully checked out before allowing them to move into your home or apartment. These people who are broke, homeless, on foodstamps, abandoned etc...in particular, they advertise their need while planning on robbing you of your personal belongings or worse yet, injuring you during a disagreement.

This kind of shit happens everyday in OKC, don't believe me ask a police officer how dangerous renting out a room in your home can be. One hour after letting someone move into your home regardless if they paid you money or not...they are considered a tentant with or without a lease agreement etc. this fact entitles them to every tenant right under the OK Landlord / Tenant law, and NO police intervention is going to take place to remove them from your residence. YOU will be told that this person has to be sued by you in court to have him/her evicted from your residence. This fact alone takes time and can be very costly depending on their situation.

YOU should take the position, that if they are homeless, they should seek help from a Social Service Agency i.e. the Salvation Army, DHS, or the local rescue mission, YOU can show them empathy/sympathy but doing so can cost you more than any rent you will receive.. PEOPLE who end up on the street (will never be honest with you as to what happen to cause them to be homeless or broke, they rehearse their story so much even they believe it.)

I am only posting this information, because a friend of mine agreed to let this out-of-state man who had just landed in OKlahoma to move into his apartment until he could get a job, etc..my friend was violently attacked, left with a permanant brain injury, unable to barely utter one word, and is now battling to keep his home place to live and now having to apply for social security disability...the guy beat the holy shit out of him, stole his car, fled and has of this date not been found or arrested.

Check everyone out, have the go to the OSBI, to verify their identity, their prior background, check every reference they have (most of them will be one of their relatives) ask for prior employers, etc etc. Don't move people waiting on disability to kick in...without them proving they have an open case with SS or DHS, you must be careful it could cost you your.
