Border CollieLab Mix (Portland)

This healthy, 8 or 9 year old Border Collie Lab mix lady wishes to be with by her owner's side at all times. She is very loving and loyal. This is a good thing and a detriment, which will be explained as I go along.

She loves play fetch, but her owner HAS to learn her tolerance level and stop her, because she'll go on forever, then come up lame for the next day or two. This is one activity that she enjoys keeping her busy...others should include walks. She's an active dog and needs to be kept active.

However, when outside with her, if she's on a leash and another dog is not or vice versa, she gets aggressive. She loves meeting new people, but initially she acts aggressive toward people, once she gets up to them, she's all loving. It's the same when someone comes to the door when her owner is home...she barks like crazy, is acting aggressively, but as soon as the door opens, she's happy to great whoever is at the door lovingly.

She tends to have MAJOR separation anxiety and does not like being left alone in the house or in a car. At home, her owner has learned to give her treats in a kong or something similar when leaving, this helps this special girl to focus on something other than her owner leaving. And oftentimes, this works for any length of time her owner is away. However, there are times when she's alone in the house trying to find one of her toys, she will tear apart anything in her way to get to her toy.
Examples of when she was home alone:
*She was crated, she couldn't reach one of her toys, so she scratched at the throw rug, until she could reach her toy. . .in the meantime, she pulled the majority of the rug into the crate with her.
*Her owner guessed she couldn't find a toy one day when her owner came home at lunch, she had literally rearranged the living room, moving a couch and recliner across the room into a completely different arrangement.
*Her owner had to put up a pet gate with a cat door so she couldn't get into the area where the kitties eat and their litter box was. It was one of those that use pressure against the door frame. She pushed it away at the bottom and got through to the kitchen where she tore through the trash and ate all the cat food.
*Another time with the pet gate, AFTER her owner made the gate more secure by placing the pressure ends into little cups secured to the wall. . .she still got through. This time, she almost chewed through the hard plastic container the cat food is kept in.
*Any time there is a trash can, box or bag, even a dirty dishes left where she can reach them. . .she attacks them and anything in them gets strewn across the room.

She is VERY territorial with her toys, food, and beds. . .especially with cats. If a cat is even walking near any of "her things," she gets riled up. She's even growled at her owner when attempting take away a real bone she had been given for a special occasion.

This lady is also a herder. She gets behind her owner to try to herd her in the direction she wants.

With all of this, her owner would highly recommend the following for her next owner:
• No other pets
• No children
• Someone who is home a lot and can take her on walks and be outside with her a lot.
• Someone who is VERY patient and has time to work through her

Please, only those that completely understand the above and are truly interested in providing this great girl a home need to contact. Reply should contain your full name, living situation, and some history about yourself/family and you're history with pets.
