Five years ago, I needed an engine swap and answered a Craigslist ad posted by David Trumps wife (a very satisfied customer). David talked me into re-building the existing engine but did not have either the knowledge or experience to pull it off. Over the next 2 years, he pulled the engine 4 times and each time it ran extremely rough, leaked coolant into the engine or had a knocking noise. We mutually agreed three years ago that the next (5th) time he pulled the engine would be the last. I never minded his taking 6 plus months each time to work on it, as I only paid him his original $1,000 labor charge and gave him $500 after the second attempt (but I did have to pay $500 each time he pulled it to pay for additional parts, engine oil, coolant, etc.). It sat at his house for 2 years and was towed to my house then, when the city fined him for operating a repair business with vehicles in various stages of repair in his driveway. Finally, with winter approaching, I started to pressure him to finish. He took exception to the pressure and quit. He then threatens me with "retribution" if I start posting any Craigslist ads or turn him into the city for operating a repair business in his driveway for at least the last 5 years. I now. Have to pay another Craigslist mechanic, who I do recommend, $1,000 to repair the damage that David did to my engine. Is this the type of mechanic you are looking for?
