Coming to the Word of God should be equivalent to coming to God. Those who come to it for mere knowledge are killed and also kill others. If we fail to receive help when you come to the Word, there may be something wrong within. . . Check your heart, do you have a heart for the Word? Is your heart divided? Are you half-hearted? We must be those who come to the Word with our whole heart and with a heart that is single. If our heart is covered by many things, we must first deal with our whole heart. Then we must deal with any separation. M.E. Barber used to say that even a small leaf can hide a bright star. The Bible more than any other book demands that we are humble ourselves. We shouldn't presume there is no problem with us and the Lord. Some think that as long as we love the Lord everything will be alright. However, loving the Lord is too general. If we realize this, we would humble ourselves and ask for His mercy. With a proper attitude we are not only receiving light, but enter into the divine light. If we don't sense we're in the light when we come to the Word, it's a sign our condition is not right. In our spirit, we first experience light then life comes after, for light is the container of life. Through prayer, as light goes deeper into our spirit, it becomes the life by which we are watered. As roots need root hairs, the deeper we get into the Word in a finer way, the more watering takes place.
