Found Dog Dont Know What to Do (Everywhere)

Unfortunately, Delaware does not have a system to assist lost & found pets and/or their owners. If you've lost your pet and don't know where to start to try to find him/her, here's a list of things to do. Just giving you a place to start.

1. Check for a license or ID tag. No tags? Ask around your neighborhood in case the dog lives nearby.
2. Take the dog to the nearest veterinarian or shelter to have the dog scanned for a microchip and checked for a tattoo.
3. Notify all of the correct authorities to report the dog found. Call your local police (non-emergency line). Also, call your local animal control agency (ACO), to complete a found dog report or bring the dog to them if you are unable to keep the dog while searching for the dog's owner.
4. Notify any other shelters and veterinarians in the area.
5. Create "found dog" flyers and post them around the neighborhood and at animal service businesses.
6. Post on your local Craigslist (www.craigslist.org ) in your local newspaper (found ads are often free), in other lost and found internet/Facebook sites. Provide as much detail as possible; sex, color, etc.
