Guitarist Wanted for Established Asian Rock Band (Portland)

Portland's The Slants is the first and only all-Asian American dance rock band in the world. The group has a solid history of nearly 7 years, which includes: 3 full-length releases and 1 remix album, nearly two dozen tours and over 350 live shows throughout North America, 10 music videos with over 10,000 views (including one with over 335,000 views), and coverage in over 1,500 radio stations, TV shows, magazines, newspapers, and websites.

Some of the media features for The Slants include: Conan O'Brien, MTV, HBO, CBS, NPR, IFCTV, Huffington Post, and more. The band has headlined showcases at events such as SXSW, MusicfestNW, Comic-Con, and DragonCon. The band has shared the stage with Apl.de.Ap (Black Eyed Peas), The Decemberists, Men Without Hats, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Hockey, Mogwai, Shonen Knife, Mindless Self Indulgence, Girl Talk, and countless others.

The band also has major sponsorships, endorsements, and partnerships from over 20 premiere companies such as Fender Music, Gibson Guitars, Red Bull, Dunlop, Orange Amplifiers, and more. The Slants' distribution includes over 12,000 brick-and-mortar stores worldwide and 256 major online retailers. The team includes a publicist, an attorney, and 4 licensing agencies. Booking/management is handled by the band's bassist, an influential voice in the music industry (writer for ASCAP, MusicThinkTank, and one of the bestselling authors in the music business category)

The band is looking for a new Asian American guitarist (male or female) who can be committed to keeping and growing the momentum behind the band. The perfect guitarist is one who can perform at least 4 shows per month, do weekend warrior trips as they come up, and tour 4-6 weeks per year.

They should also have a dynamic stage presence, isn't afraid to help take the band in new directions, and cares about social justice issues. They would complement the existing guitarist and help create new parts (or translate keyboard/synth riffs).

We're not looking for a clone of our current guitarist and we'd love to explore new frontiers with sounds or experiences. Must be a resident of the Pacific Northwest, have professional gear, and a good attitude.

The band has a lot of fun touring, visiting new and interesting places, and having new experiences. The fans are extremely loyal and energetic. The band plays at many clubs, as well as anime/video game/geek conventions, prisons, colleges, military bases, cultural festivals, and more. Sometimes, audiences can be as large as 10,000 or as few as 100 - either way, the band is all about putting on the best show possible.
