Lost Dog Dont Know What to Do

Unfortunately, Delaware does not have a system to assist lost pets and/or their owners. If you've lost your pet and don't know where to start to try to find him/her, here's a list of things to do. Just giving you a place to start.

1. Immediately put out food, water and your dog's bed or an article of your clothing at the location where your dog was last seen. There is a good chance that your dog may return.
2. Contact someone in authority, (Animal control, police departments)and file a missing dog report.
3. Contact your local animal shelters and veterinary hospitals/clinics to file lost dog reports. Email (preferred) or fax them a photo of your dog, description and your contact information.
4. Get the word out by using flyers and signs with a picture of your dog and a phone number (check your phone often!) Go door-to-door with your flyer in the neighborhood where your dog was last seen.
5. Instruct everyone that is helping you to NOT call or chase your dog. This will prolong your search. If they see your dog, sit or lay down (no eye contact) and gently toss out tasty treats to lure in your dog.
6. Post your dog on the lost and found section of Craigslist (www.craigslist.org ), Facebook pages, lost pet websites, newspaper ads
7. Create a Facebook page for your dog (optional.)
