Copied from the Baltimore Sun News 9-25-2017 : Howard County police said Monday they are continuing to search for missing New Jersey resident David Gipson Smith, 28, nearly two months since his disappearance was reported in Woodbine. Smith left his home in New Jersey and was seen Aug. 6 with a friend, who told police they dropped Smith off in the 2000 block of Woodbine Road. Police said they learned Smith, who did not have a place to stay in Maryland, was using drugs, possibly heroin, the day he disappeared.

Smith reportedly planned to spend the night outside, police said. On Aug. 12, police conducted a large-scale land and air search, including nearby farmland, woods and a pond. Smith has left his home for weeks or months at a time in the past, police said, and he may no longer be in Maryland. When Smith left his home, police said, he packed luggage and other possessions. Witnesses in Elkridge told police they saw Smith park his car in the area, where he took some of his possessions and left the rest, and that he asked a friend for a ride the day he disappeared.

No activity has been reported on Smith's cellphone, credit or debit cards or social media accounts, police said Monday. Police have checked local hospitals and shelters in their search for Smith. Police said there is no evidence of foul play, but are concerned because of Smith's history of drug and alcohol abuse. Smith is described as a white male, 6 feet 4 inches, weighing 230 pounds. He also has several tattoos on his chest, torso and arms. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Howard County police at 410-313-STOP or .
