Need Vet Help At Home (North Shore)

Welcome to Vet Help At Home. My name is Elizabeth and I am a compassionate and caring Certified Veterinary Technician who wants to help you and your pet(s) in the comfort of your home.

Are you going away on vacation and need a cat-sitter to watch your healthy kitties? Or do you have a dog or cat with medical needs who requires a trained veterinary professional to monitor them and/or administer medications while you're away? You can relax while on vacation knowing that a trained veterinary technician is carefully watching your pet(s) in the comfort of your own home.

Do you struggle giving your pet medications? Are you unable to give your pet the necessary injections he or she needs, such as insulin or subcutaneous fluids? Is your pet a diabetic and you want to start taking your pet's blood glucose level in the comfort of your own home? Would you like to learn how to trim your pet's nails yourself instead of bringing him or her into the vet to have it done? Or would it be much better and less stressful for both you and your pet if a knowledgeable veterinary professional came to your house to provide these services for you?

It's stressful enough when your pet is sick and you're worried, but it's even harder when you're struggling. Your pet is fighting you, hides whenever it's time to give the medications, you're uncomfortable or unsure how to do it safely, or it's simply too much for you to do by yourself. I know how hard it can be to give medications, especially when you're just learning. If you would like a veterinary professional to come to your home to teach you, support you if you're struggling to do it on your own, or if it's just too much to handle and you'd like an experienced technician who can simply do it for you, then please contact me. It's hard enough when your pet is sick and you're struggling - so why not have a veterinary professional help you in the comfort of your own home?

SERVICES:

Healthy Cat-Sitting

When you go away on vacation, would you like a trusted veterinary professional to take care of your kitties? With four cats of my own, I can't imagine how stressful and worried I'd be if I left on vacation. Would the person watching them be sure to play with them daily, serve their food just the way I do, and know what to do if one of my furbabies became sick? As a veterinary technician with years of experience, you could trust that your furbabies would be happy and healthy when you came home.

Medical Pet-Sitting

Do you have a pet who has specific medical needs and requires a veterinary professional to pet-sit? Whether you need a knowledgeable veterinary technician to monitor your pet closely while you're away and/or to administer medications, I am available to help.

Nail Trimming

Interested in learning how to trim your pet's nails yourself? Nail trimming can be stressful if you're not sure where to trim, what to do if you do cut the blood vessel in the nail, or if you're unsure how to restrain your pet appropriately for this procedure. But another big aspect of nail trimming is desensitizing your pet to having their feet touched, rewarding your pet appropriately during and after nail trimming so they actually enjoy it, and most importantly feeling confident in your ability to do it.

Administering Medications

Do you need one-on-one training in your own home to successfully administer medications? Or would you prefer to have a veterinary professional simply administer the medications for you? Giving medications can be very difficult especially when you're learning, so let a veterinary professional assist and teach you tricks of how to administer medications at your own home successfully. Whether it's oral, injectable, or any other route, it doesn't have to be stressful for you or your pet. With the combination of you being confident giving the medication, we'll also work on how to reward your pet correctly afterwards so he or she doesn't run and hide when it's time for you to give medications.

Taking Your Pet's Blood Glucose Level

Do you have a diabetic pet who frequently visits the vet to have their blood glucose levels taken? Would you prefer to do it yourself at home? It's better for cats especially to have their blood glucose levels taken in a low-stress environment (such as in the comfort of their own home) because stress elevates their blood glucose levels. Managing your pet's diabetes can be easier with you being both comfortable administering insulin and taking your pet's blood glucose levels at home.

FAQ:

What areas do you service?

I travel all of the North Shore and am willing to travel about 45 minutes to an hour from the Salem area. If you're unsure whether or not I'll travel to your town, please contact me.

What are your prices?

My prices vary based on many factors including your location, how many pet(s) you need assistance with, what specifically you need help with (whether it's a nail trim versus taking blood glucose levels), if you would like to be trained on how to do something or if you'd like me to take care of it for you, and how often you need me to help.

What made you interested in doing this?

While working in practice I noticed a lot of owners struggling to give their pets medications, being unable to treat their pet at home because they didn't have the necessary support, or owners who were simply unable to do it themselves. It's hard enough when your beloved furry friend is sick and you want them to be better but you don't have the necessary guidance and assistance to do so successfully. I've seen owners with diabetic pets who routinely bring them into the hospital to have their blood glucose level taken. But, especially with cats whose blood glucose levels elevate with stress, it's better and more efficient for owners to take blood glucose levels at home themselves - and it's very easy! Some hospitals try to show owners in the veterinary hospital setting, but usually when owners get home and try to do it themselves they are unsuccessful. I want owners to feel empowered in treating their pets with medications or managing their pets health in their own home.

What is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)?

To be a CVT, a technician must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) and have either graduated from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program, have a combination of college coursework and experience in a veterinary hospital, or years of experience in veterinary medicine. Being a CVT simply means that a veterinary technician went above and beyond to further their education and knowledge, and CVTs continue to enhance their knowledge by completing continuing education credits which allows them to keep their credentials yearly. CVTs can also go on to specialize in a particular field and earn a Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) which is something I eventually want to earn in my career. CVTs can specialize in numerous fields including emergency medicine, anesthesia, behavior, and so much more.
