Psychotherapy that You Earn by Volunteering in the Community (Volunteers In Psychotherapy

You can earn strictly private psychotherapy (individual, couples or family), provided by Licensed Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors, through Volunteers In Psychotherapy. VIP is a nonprofit, charitable program, granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service [EIN# 06-1532207].

For over 15 years, our IRS-approved charitable service, Volunteers in Psychotherapy (VIP), has provided truly private therapy (counseling) that people earn by volunteering in the community, privately and independently, for the nonprofit, charitable or government organization of their choice. Over 580 individuals, couples and families have earned strictly private psychotherapy through VIP.

You can provide volunteer work for a hospital, soup kitchen, library, public school, nursing home, town sports league for kids, volunteer ambulance or fire corps, medical charity, etc. -- and in exchange you can earn therapy with one of our licensed Psychologists, Psychiatrist, or Social Worker or Professional Counselors. VIP's only service is strictly private therapy.

VIP was granted the Connecticut Psychological Association's Award for Distinguished Psychological Contribution in the Public Interest, and the 2003 award of the American Institute of Medical Education.

We've been featured in the New York Times [ http://www.nytimes.com/2002/09/22/nyregion/psychotherapy-at-the-price-of-volunteering.html ], Hartford Courant, Psychology Today and by the American Psychological Association. VIP was also featured recently in the New England Psychologist. Or you may have seen a recent article about VIP in several of the "Life" publications [West Hartford Life, Simsbury Life, Wethersfield Life, Glastonbury Life, etc.].

VIP was selected as a Finalist in an International Funding Competition for innovative healthcare delivery jointly run by the Ashoka Foundation.

VIP was specifically formed in 1998 as an innovative alternative to the lack of privacy and client control experienced through managed care and at public clinics. Since VIP doesn't participate with insurance companies, participating VIP psychotherapists can't be contractually required to send reports about your private therapy discussions to your insurer; and no personal records of your discussions become part of your permanent medical record.

VIP provides psychotherapy that is as private as Connecticut state law allows.

Hundreds of local people have donated funds so that we can offer VIP's charitable service in the Greater Hartford area. VIP has also received 105 grants from 34 charitable foundations and other funding entities (congregations and businesses).

VIP's only service is strictly private therapy, provided by licensed clinical psychologists and other licensed psychotherapists.
