wood finishing move a table and seal the top

My partner and I are excited to be buying our first "adult" piece of furniture for a new apartment and want to make sure it can withstand daily use. We'd love help getting it from A to B from someone who could put on a strong protective seal (polly?) that will allow us to only need trivets and coasters (or less).

The Request:

-- Pick up table & 10 chairs by September 9th in Buena Park (elevator building and we can help load out).

-- Coat/seal the table top. Polyuerthane? Lacquer? You tell us.

-- Drop off table and chairs in Andersonville (first floor of a two flat and we can help load in).

It would be ideal if you could hold onto the table until the last week of September or longer when we can move it into our new place in Andersonville, but our only hard deadline is we need it picked up before the folks we are buying it from (in Buena Park) get their new table on September 10th.

The Table:

-- Beautiful solid mahogany. The current owners kept it in impeccable shape, always used placemats and trivets over a cloth and pad.
-- Two detachable leaves (table has supportive sliding beams and those little male/female plugs and is girded by latches).
-- Table components can be completely separated (leaves, one half with beams, other half with beams, legs)
-- Unsure of the current seal, has some sort of thin, shiny layer with some wear at the edges.
-- Ten chairs (do not need work, just need a place to go)

If this sounds like the job for you, please contact me and tell me why (what this job is worth to you, experience, references, etc).

Thanks!
