I am a writing and English tutor who has taught and tutored process-based* essay writing for more than 30 years.**
I have tutored third-graders to college students.
I was taught the theory and practice of teaching essay-writing three times--at the University of California-San Diego, the University of Alabama, and New York University (NYU).
I specialize in the five-paragraph essay, an approach applicable to essays of any length.
I have also tutored screenwriting and short story and poetry writing.
(A widely published essayist, poet and short story writer, I now write screenplays.)
I charge $50/hour, firm.

* "Process-based" means breaking essay writing into smaller, more manageable steps and aspects. The four aspects are content, organization, development, and language. The six steps are 1) know and/or research topic, 2) brainstorm and/or freewrite, 3) outline/plan essay, 4) draft essay, 5) evaluate draft, 6) improve draft. Though longer than the one-shot-deal-approach most students use, this process guarantees a well-organized, insightful, well-developed, and well-written essay.
** A product of MFA programs in writing and film at Columbia and NYU, respectively, I have taught essay writing at NYU, CUNY, the University of Alabama, LIU, and SUNY.
I have tutored students from countless elementary and middle schools, high schools, colleges, and universities. These include The Dalton School, the United Nations International School, Columbia University, Croton-Harmon High School, Anne M. Dorner Middle School, Robert F. Wagner Middle School (MS 167), Manhattan New School (PS 290), the School of the Future, Irvington High School, the University of Michigan, The Dwight School, The Ramaz School, the Professional Children's School, the University of California-San Diego, Fordham University, NYU, and Dartmouth College.
P.S. The above-mentioned process can be learned and sped up/abbreviated for in-class and standardized-test essays. I have helped students elevate their SAT, ACT and GRE verbal/writing scores.
