Live-in Burgermeister wanted to enjoy conscious living in a no-smoking and no-furry-pets designated southeast Portland residence.

Beautiful old shared bungalow near Mt. Tabor needs a live-in Burgermeister with natural leadership skills and attention to details. This house has been a quiet and inspiring place for diverse Portlanders for many years, including teachers, conservation professionals, graduate students, artists, visiting international students, and others who appreciate having something better than an apartment, and more warm and social than a condo or studio. This shared house has amenities that can only be found in a place that is entrusted in the hands of mature, sober, and conscientious inhabitants, like a hot tub, a wood stove, a grill, an outdoor patio fire-pit, a gas range, hardwood floors, and a landscape planted with diverse flowers, herbs, and fruiting plants.

In order for this place to be sustainable and viable, it needs to have a capable and inspired resident who holds the big picture and sees to it that the whole house is cared for and harmonious. Burgermeister responsibilities in this shared bungalow typically include little more than being present and aware that the small details of life are being taken care of that enable a safe, clean, and peaceful home to function. The Burgermeister ensures that housemates are sharing in house chores and living by the established house rules. If the Burgermeister also wants to facilitate house meals or meetings, movie night, wine or jam making, or other small social gatherings, that's wonderful, but it doesn't need to be a responsibility. When a housemate gives notice that they're planning to move out and they don't wish to renew their lease, the Burgermeister needs to advertise the room, interview and choose housemates, and provide them with lease agreements and a copy of the House Rules. They need to post and collect utility payments, confirming that each housemate has deposited their payments each month, and performing or arranging for repairs as needed. It's a difficult responsibility, and it's not a role that everyone has the skills for, but if you're one of the rare people for whom this is a natural fit, it could be a great opportunity.

The Burgermeister will spend an average of ten hours per month on direct, focused work time. Benefits include a $150 monthly rent credit, and to the extent afforded by transitions of others, the ability to choose where you live and who you live with. There may be a couple of rooms that are available for you to choose from, depending on your move-in date. One is a large main floor room with a fireplace, artisan hardwood floors, exposed beam high ceiling with a fan, and sliding glass doors out to the back deck, patio and gardens. It is furnished and rents for $645/month, so your rent would be reduced to $495 as the Burgermeister. Other rooms rent for $350 $485, and $600, so it would also be possible to live for less. Utilities average $75/month pp.

If you feel that this would be a good fit for your personality and experience, get in touch and we can talk about the details. Position is available starting July 15th or August 1st.
