Beginning Violin and Viola Lessons with a MinnOrch sub (ericbate.com) (SE Mpls)
Dear student,
I am a freelance violinist and violin/viola teacher, and I currently have openings for new students on Mondays between 3 and 9pm. My studio is located at the Profile Event Center on the East Bank.
Performance Experience:
I am the associate concertmaster of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, and a sub for the Minnesota Orchestra. I also have performed with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Madison Symphony, the Green Bay Symphony, and the Rochester Symphony. In playing with some of these groups, I've performed with some of the best musicians in the world, such as Joshua Bell, Emanuel Ax, Lynn Harrell, and Thomas Trotter.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching privately for a little over a decade now. I studied Suzuki pedagogy with Mark Bjork and traditional pedagogy with Sally O'Reilly, both at the U of M. I currently (as of June, 2015) have a studio of fourteen students at Schmitt Music in Minnetonka. Most of my students are in Suzuki books 1 and 2.
I love to work with beginners and intermediate students. My philosophy is to teach through positive reinforcement and demonstrations rather than by solely pointing out what's wrong. I like to have fun in the lesson, but I am absolutely focused on helping you progress as a musician. The fastest way to get amazingly good at anything is to enjoy the process and to love what you're doing, and this is the cornerstone of my teaching philosophy.
The first lesson is free - a trial lesson, in which I mainly try to get an idea of how I could best help you as a player.

30 min = $30 (ages 5-12 only)
45 min = $45
60 min = $60
