I am a 49-year-old woman of faith, who's been forced to learn how to live life from a wheelchair for over 6 years now. I went from a professional in upper management, actively involved in charity work, community theater, our church fine arts and volunteering to fully disabled, and having to depend on the kindness of others. I have been blessed to have some of the most amazing angels who have cared for me during this time. Due to a family emergency, one of my earth angels is off to rescue another, so I have an immediate opening on my awesome 3 person PCA team. HOURS: Position 3 - Part Time 21 Hrs. / week
PAY: Rate $12 per hour
AVAILABLE: Immediately
LOCATION: Cottage Grove, MN
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience - Preferred but not required. Training provided.
Certification - Completed or will assist in completing DHS PCA training / certification online. (Available at no cost)
Confirmation - Must pass criminal background check
Driving - Required to have own reliable vehicle, valid drivers license & auto insurance
Able to drive accessible van to transport me to medical appointments, etc.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: I need someone who is interested in working in a traditional faith based family atmosphere, in a warm inviting home setting, interacting directly with me. A person who thrives on making order out of chaos, has the flexibility of Gumby, the ability to see the silver lining and deal with unexpected changes without getting overwhelmed depending on how my health is doing on any given day. Multitasking is essential along with honesty and open communication. Since I require assistance with almost all activities of daily living with two main exceptions: I can transfer myself and use the bathroom with no issues. (All private / personal hygiene taken care of by my husband), You will be responsible to help me be as independent as possible for as long as possible. I am acutely aware that your care will literally improve the quality of my life.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Assistance positioning commode/electric wheelchair so I can transfer myself safely
• Daily basic grooming, washing, drying, curling my hair, etc.
• Dressing, and prepping for going to medical appointments
• Light cooking and serving meals, assisting with eating when needed
• Some light housekeeping /projects (Divided according to PCAs' interests)
• Limited Range of motion exercises, etc.
• Working together on crafts, baking, canning projects (Salsa, pickles, etc.)
• Reading to me, due to vision issues from trauma injuries, etc.
NON-NEGOTIABLE - Must be an OPTIMIST who enjoys FOOD, FUN and FELLOWSHIP!
Other:
• I have a service dog - must be comfortable around small dogs
• Due to allergies you must be non-smoker / clothing free of strong fragrances /2nd hand smoke
• Effective verbal and written English communication skills
• The ability to problem solve and follow directions
• The ability to perform job functions with little supervision
• Seeking to always improve - and a desire to make a difference
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the nature and risk to my weak immune system I am unable to be in close contact with individuals who are prone to colds, flus or viruses, etc., While it is inevitable, I must attempt to keep this type of exposure to the absolute minimum. Thank you for understanding.
