This is a homey, creative space with lots of windows and light inside and a "backyard" that extends to Konahuanui outside. It's a 2-bedroom/1-bathroom duplex, about 850 sq ft, that backs up to Kawainui Marsh. There's a full kitchen with granite countertops; open, breezy living room; and one parking space in the driveway. The cottage will be freshly painted by move-in. Washer, dryer, and clothesline are shared and free. Water and sewer are included; tenant pays for electricity, plus cable if desired.

This is a great place for people who love the outdoors. The sunsets are beautiful, and tradewinds blow across the property. In the morning and evening the birds are singing out loud, and a few neighborhood roosters crow. Two cats live on the property, and every now and then a dog or two comes to visit. The beach is less than a mile away.

The house is on a quiet side street. There's a bus stop a block away. Kailua town--with Down to Earth, Whole Foods, plenty of great restaurants, a green market, and one of the few remaining used bookstores on the Island--is less than three-quarters of a mile away.

Four other professional and academic people live on the property, in the other half of the duplex and in the "tiny house" in the backyard. We have visitors and occasional get-togethers, but nothing wild. There is shared "create space," for projects like refinishing furniture or doing art, in the carport. The yard is shared green space. We are building organic edible gardens and flower gardens (there are more plantings than show in the picture). You are welcome to participate, though no yardwork is required. In short, the set-up of the property is such that it would be impossible to live in a bubble; however, we're peaceable and busy people who will respect your privacy. We can make arrangements for you to have a personal outdoor patio space/barbecue area.

Short- or long-term rentals are fine; military are welcome. No smokers or dogs; cats considered. The space will be available September.
